Cold weather to last until February

Holidays have passed but the cold weather still remains. In Metro Manila, the temperature dropped to 18.2-degrees centigrade on Monday and was even colder on Sunday at 18-degrees centigrade.

“We expect the temperature to continue to drop,” said Prisco Nilo, director of PAGASA (Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration).

The Philippines is experiencing cold weather because of the northeast monsoon (also known as the Amihan) blowing into the country.

But while it’s cold in the evening until early morning, the temperature usually rises and turns warm in the morning.

Effects of Cold Weather:

  1. Low Humidity. The colder air is, the lower its saturation point. The cold weather makes our lips dry and chappy.
  2. Weaker immune system. When we are cold, our body shifts its resources into keeping the body warm, and redirects energy away from the immune system. So therefore, dress warmly, wear a jacket.
  3. Headaches, colds, flus. Weather changes can be considered another reason why many are getting sick. Load up on hot liquids, vitamin C, and get enough rest.
  4. More savings on electric bills. Less use of aircon and electric fan means lower electric bills.
