Facebook Launches Vanity URLs
Before when a user registers for an account on Facebook, whether it be for a Regular Profile or a Fan Page, Facebook automatically assigns a random number to the profile url,
http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=123456789
but now, it can be changed to a username of your choice like this,
http://www.facebook.com/yourname
Why get them? Because it will be easier for people to remember your profile address.
But if you own a Fan Page, it must have been created before 5/31/09 and have at least 1,000 fans before you can get a vanity url for it.
Faceboook employees and key journalists were given the first shot to get vanity urls of their choice. Facebook officially announced the availability of vanity urls to the public only on June 13, 2009
To claim yours, visit http://www.facebook.com/username/.
